By day, Paula is a psychology professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in the study of human emotions. In her spare time, however, she’s a bluesy, emotive vocalist who doesn’t miss a chance to sing.
Looking for someone to organize Christmas caroling in the neighborhood? Paula is your gal. Putting together a garage band, and you need a lead singer? She’s ready!
Following my post featuring Sophie and her ukulele, this is the second in a series of portraits in which I try to bring out something about each subject’s personality, profession, hobbies, or other unique characteristics. I continue to employ the “invisible backdrop” lighting technique, finishing each photo in a high-contrast black-and-white. By stripping out any background details, I achieve two objectives. First, I eliminate distractions so that your eye focuses on the subject. Second, I can achieve this look virtually anywhere, pretty consistently, without having to drag around a backdrop.
Thanks to my good friend, Dean, I have a working title for the series: “True Colors in Black-and-White.”
What do you think? Any suggestions? Better yet, any volunteers??
Great title for an intriguing series!
