At the foot of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains in Colorado you will find a geological wonder–the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. It incorporates 149,137 acres of tundra, forest, wetlands and soaring sand dunes.
Established as a National Monument in 1932 by President Herbert Hoover, it was redesignated by Congress as a national park in 2004.
This Will Be Epic
This is the first stop on my 31-day, 3800-mile sweep through 7 national parks. Along the way, I’ll also visit one national monument, one State Park, two wineries, and one alpaca farm.
