Just off South Park St. in Madison, you’ll find The Book Deal, purveyors of bargain-priced used books. As a special event, the owners invited Gene and Sassy to give free educational presentations.

Gene has been a raptor biologist for more than 45 years and has banded over 17,000 birds. Sassy has been a Great Horned Owl for her entire life, but she gave up trying to keep track of how many mice she has eaten and coughed up.

If you think it’s odd to find a raptor biologist and an owl in a used bookstore, just imagine the scene when a customer walks in with his own stuffed chair and asks them to pose for a photo.
