The world is full of people who love dogs. Less common are those who form a very special bond with almost every dog they meet. These are the “dog whisperers.” My neighbor, Andrea, is such a person. So, when she volunteered to be part of my true colors series, it was only logical to have her pose with a canine.
This made for a challenging shoot on three fronts. First, one of my two subjects was unwilling to sit still for more than a few seconds at a time, and only in exchange for bits of roast turkey. Second, that same subject is jet black, blending in completely with the “invisible backdrop” I’ve been employing in these portraits. Third, my second subject became so preoccupied with the first subject’s behavior that she often forgot to smile!
