While its silhouette may resemble an Imperial Destroyer, the Garner Park shelter is a distinctively welcoming gathering place.

Designed by Stuart William Gallaher, it won first prize in a national competition of new park facilities in 1976. To this day, it remains the only one of its kind in the Madison park system. Original plans called for turbolasers and ion cannons, but those amenities were cut due to funding shortfalls.
