For 17 years, Joann has been a hardworking member of our Continuing Studies creative services team, designing and producing countless brochures, postcards, graphics, banners, and other marketing materials. Joann has never been one to seek attention, so when she announced her retirement, she spurned the standard speech-laden sendoff’s and sappy sentiment. But we weren’t about to pass up an opportunity to recognize Joann’s faithful service to the University of Wisconsin.

We decided to give her the kind of high-energy tribute that only the UW Band can provide.

Emerging from our weekly staff meeting, Joann was surprised to hear the sounds of drums in the hallway. Surprise turned to shock, as she was encircled by trumpets and trombones while dozens of colleagues lined the hallway to clap, sing, and cheer.

What fun! I think we should do this every Thursday. Thoughts?
