The Basenji is a small, short haired hunting dog from Africa. It is short backed and lightly built, appearing high on the leg compared to its length. The wrinkled head is proudly carried on a well arched neck and the tail is set high and curled. Elegant and graceful, the whole demeanor is one of poise and inquiring alertness.
Spot was neither eager nor uncooperative when I interrupted his evening walk to ask for a photo. One could say that he was nonplussed by the whole affair, and far more interested in continuing his leisurely stroll around the block. Fortunately, his natural posture and cool stare make for a very camera-friendly dog, even if he’s not keen on posing.
We first met Spot’s owner, Hank, years ago, walking another Basenji named Icing — shorthand for Icing the Puck. A perfect Wisconsin dog name!
Spot may lack the clever hockey-themed moniker, but he is just as handsome as his predecessor.
